Embrace Human Cloning
The first paragraph in this article states the point that Science-Fiction has altered our view on genetic engineering. Due to the unravelling of the human genome in 2000 we now have hope of curing many of the world’s diseases. The first step of human “enhancement” would be to change the genetics of the human at the reproductive level. Questions are raised about the difference of cures and enhancements. The idea of ethical question of is it “right” to clone is inquired upon by religious and cultural ethics. The question of whether people are trying to enhance their lives or are people trying to prolong their lives. There also a continual argument being waged as to whether human nature should be preserved or whether human nature intends for us to continue to “enhance” ourselves. Lastly the point is being made that people should continue to “develop” ourselves as it is what is “best for us.” There is a rational and faith based perspective from both sides as it based off of two opinions. Regardless of what side of the argument is mentioned both sides bring up the point that human tendencies of greed, genocide, etc., would still come into play. Both sides argue that there must be a border between curing a birth defect and enhancement. Some scientists state that in order to “better” ourselves, we must make these enhanced humans like us not differ from us. The final question is posed as to whether or not we can love babies that are designed and not just strictly our natural genetics and of natural creation.

Of the studies that were used to provide evidence, 10 out of 12 suggested that women are affected more than men are. It was stated at the end of the report that more research was needed to come to a conclusion.

Pride and prejudice: in Russia and Eastern Europe the thugs and flags of the far right take on a dark homophobic edge
Nikolai Alexeyev is a Gay Rights Campaigner in Russia who runs the Gay Rights Parade in Moscow every year even though he is threatened and has been arrested. It is a lot of work to keep the location secret or change it to protect the Gay population that is willing to go to the parade. Anti-Gay groups are the biggest threat to the parade and the Gay people of the country. Due to the changing of parade locations and the secretive nature of the planning of it in Russia many of the participants cannot get to participate. Due to the Russian Orthodox Church standing up for the Anti-Gay demonstrators many other Russians are opposed to the Gays and also persecute them. Parties like that of Russia’s Liberal Democratic Party are “far-right” and also have the ideology of one people so they also discriminate against the Gays. It could be very detrimental if a country such as Russia which is not part of the EU or NATO because it has a history of changing governments and of less than democratic tendancies. Many other Eastern-European countries are also shifting towards the “right.” As these groups take hold they tend to single out an indigenous minority. In Russia people are not only homophobic but they are also xenophobic and usually act upon this with hatred to foreigners and minorities.

Bio of Brady VibertBrady is known as the tall, buoyant guy who is often there for people and also likes to keep his social life busy as he does not like to be at home. He is also known to analyze people often and pull apart their lives based on their behavior and language. Many people are distraught and worry what he thinks or says about them due to his rather “passive-aggressive” nature. He is often very sweet, shy and confident in what he does, but when someone has wronged him he usually cuts them loose from his life. Brady has many complex and odd relationships with many of his “inner circle” of friends. He has many opinions which are viewed as controversial and he has absolutely no problem voicing these opinions of making people aware that they may be looking at things from perspective he may consider to be ignorant. For the most part he is accepting of people who understand and deal with his strong and bold personality but he does not typically get along well with his own kind as they tend to clash in opinion. There is the rare occasion where he just flat out doesn’t like someone at all but he usually invents a reason to dislike them. One of the main aspects of Brady’s life is how much he likes to be away, whether it is mentally or physically he likes to enjoy life from a watching and then doing perspective. Brady is also known to party often, and party long. He enjoys the finer and more grandiose things in life like brand name items and is focused on some day affording his own voluptuary of articles which he finds meaningful. Many would call him cocky, conceited, and vain but to him he is only working towards his own goals by all means necessary and with great effort.

Reinstating Capital Punishment in Canada
Do you agree that murderers and rapists should be allowed to live a solid, stable life after they have committed their crimes? Apparently the government of Canada thinks they should be allowed to continue on living. Capital punishment should not be used for every crime, just the extraordinarily heinous crimes such as, rape, high treason, first degree murder and mass murder. These crimes all significantly damage or end many people’s lives and so should it end the life of the person who committed them. It has been proven to deter murder rates significantly, no person executed in Canada has ever been proven innocent and it permanently stops that criminal from committing their crimes. Therefore there is no conceivable reason for capital punishment to not be used.
The usage of capital punishment as a means of law enforcement has proven to lower the rates of murders and rapes. This works for many strong reasons such as; if a person who had the mindset to rape someone knew that if they were to be caught then why would the commit the heinous crime? If that person were to rape someone else and be caught and convicted, sentenced to death and executed they surely would not follow through with the crime as it would only result in the death of them. Due to the nature of media and public interest, the event of execution would most likely be a fairly public event and many people would at least hear about the execution. Therefore the family of the rapist or murderer would suffer tremendous amounts of shame and dishonour and thus many people who would still want to rape or murder someone would still not want to put their family through that. People who are convicted of these crimes and killed in a publicized way could very well deter other people from seeing the overall effect of the death, but there is also strong scientific evidence to suggest that this does not affect the midset of a killer. Outcome, honour and pain are known to be influential parts of a person’s ego and life, capital punishment changes all of those, hence capital punishment is the appropriate form of correction.
In Canada there has never been a person executed who was later found to be innocent after he was executed or stopped during the execution. This suggests that in all cases on Canadian soil capital punishment has been just and not accidental. Due to this method being flawless in Canada there is no reason it should have been discontinued and many reasons why it should be reinstated. It should also be noted that it takes many years for a person whom is on Death Row to be processed because of all the hearings and repeals. So yet again there is also time for other potential suspects to be proven guilty instead of the convicted person on Death Row. The last thing that should be noted is that with the advanced amounts of forensics and DNA testing that is done to suspects and victims, there is a 100% chance of the accused being the true criminal. And if the person is proven to be innocent then obviously they would not be executed for committing said crime. Seeing that with technology and time to prove a person’s innocence or guilt along with a lack of accidents occurring from capital punishment; there is no reason why it should not be used.
The last and certainly strongest reason is the fact that if a person is executed due to capital punishment then there is absolutely no way they can continue to commit heinous crimes against other people. Firstly and obviously it should be noted that if a person is dead then they cannot commit any further murders and rapes, at that point it is physically impossible. Secondly, if a person is dead then they cannot share their ideas, manifesto or other personal effects which caused them to be executed with other people; thus limiting the damage they could spread. Lastly, a person who has been executed will never serve as a martyr to other people because a person would not murder for the point of murdering. People murder for a cause, whether it be emotional, physical, abusive, revenge, or fiscal, people always have a reason for murdering someone. Therefore it is impossible for someone to be a martyr for murdering without cause. Capital punishment is a means of intervening murderers, rapists and traitors, and placing a permanent stop to each, individual case.
This essay has discussed many reasons why capital punishment will be a positive change in Canadian life. The main points discussed proved that capital punishment can solve or at least help to lower a growing crime rate and a still existent murder and rape rate in Canada. Since capital punishment lowers murder rates. Secondly, no person has ever been executed and proven innocent, and lastly that a person who has been killed cannot still commit heinous crimes. There is no significant reason that would be strong enough to counter these points, why is capital punishment not used to treat the most heinous and disgusting crimes committed in Canada?
